Haemorrhoids



Haemorrhoids, commonly known as piles, are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus, leading to discomfort and bleeding. They can be internal or external, with external haemorrhoids being more painful.

Causes:

  • Chronic constipation or diarrhoea
  • Straining during bowel movements
  • Prolonged sitting, especially on the toilet
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Low-fibre diet

Symptoms:

  • Itching or irritation in the anal region
  • Pain and discomfort
  • Swelling around the anus
  • Bleeding during bowel movements

Treatment & Prevention:

  • Eat a high-fibre diet to prevent constipation
  • Stay hydrated and exercise regularly
  • Use over-the-counter creams or sitz baths for relief
  • Avoid prolonged sitting and excessive straining
  • In severe cases, medical interventions like rubber band ligation or surgery may be necessary
