Jaundice



Jaundice is a condition where the skin and whites of the eyes turn yellow due to high bilirubin levels in the blood.

Causes:

  • Liver diseases (hepatitis, cirrhosis)
  • Blocked bile ducts
  • Haemolysis (excessive breakdown of red blood cells)
  • Newborn jaundice due to immature liver function

Symptoms:

  • Yellowing of skin and eyes
  • Dark urine
  • Pale stools
  • Fatigue and abdominal pain

Treatment & Prevention:

  • Maintain liver health by avoiding excessive alcohol and toxins
  • Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins
  • Seek medical attention for underlying liver conditions
  • Infants with jaundice may require phototherapy or medical monitoring
